HISTORY

Located in downtown Poulsbo, Washington, Cornerstone Baptist Church was established in April 2000, by Pastor Joe Maxwell. Though still quaint, we have grown in numbers and in our understanding of God's Word. We have always taken the approach that a literal, grammatical, and historical interpretation combined with an approach consistent with the author and audience, yields the truth.

We are committed to hold onto our beliefs in a manner that subjects their validity to continued examination and deeper understanding in all areas of study.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We have often considered a doctrinal statement in order sum up what we believe to be the truth. However, we always end up trying to paraphrase the bible by clarifying what God has already put forth in His word.

So, instead, we stand on the scriptures alone and speak where they speak, and are silent where they are silent.

PRINCIPLES

We at Cornerstone Baptist Church, believe these few principles are at the very heart of understanding the New Covenant Church and Her place in the world:

1. The ekklesia (church) as defined is an assembly of baptized believers. She is not, and will never be universal, nor invisible. Locality is implied by the ability to assemble. She was indwelt by the Spirit of God on the day of Pentecost after Jesus' resurrection.

2. The good news (Gospel) message emphasized the Kingdom of God long prophesied and expected by the nation of Israel. Jesus offered it to the nation of Israel, and they rejected His terms and crucified Him.

He will return to establish that very Kingdom as it's King.

3. Jesus ratified the New Covenant with His death and all believers must be immersed into His body (the church) through baptism. The New Covenant (testament) writings are devoted to directing, warning, and encouraging participants in the New Covenant to adhere to God's commands and live faithful lives in order to inherit the full blessings of the New Covenant when the Kingdom is established.

CORE VALUES

1. Sharing Christ's life together (fellowship) is essential for the spiritual health of the body.

Ephesians 4:13-15, 1 John 1-6

2. We shall strive to love each other and everyone we meet, as Christ loved.

John 13:34

3. The Bible is God's Word to be followed without compromise.

Mathew 5:16, Mathew 28:19-20

4. We value people and are prepared, willing, and actively seeking opportunities

to share our faith and hope.

Mark 16:15
